Just wow. I'm actually not sure what to think, and I probably won't pass judgment until I try it out myself. More comments after it's had a chance to sink in a bit.

It is pretty much impossible to support 75 talent points in a
system whose design goal is to minimize boring passive
talents.
The only down side is shallow speccing into three trees for
better soloing but that is based on current tree design.

I'm excited. I think the changes make a lot of sense (the way
they're explained, anyway)... Of course, seeing things in
action is always different.

I'm a bit torn on this. On the one hand, the massive sprawling talent trees were not maintainable, and it was causing major balancing problems. They additionally cut down on "unfun but useful talents" through the use of the specialization system, and might make some character specs feel more iconic.
On the other hand, it feels like now, not only are you locked into your class, but there's fewer and fewer reasons to spread out and try new and unique specs. Granted, these specs in the past have been inefficient or weaker than so called "cookie cutter specs", but at times they can be kind of a blast to play.
Overall, it feels like a step backward, with all negative impressions such a phrase contains, while at the same time feeling necessary for further evolution to occur.

Yeah, I kind of have mixed feelings on this as well. We'll see, though - if they provide enough variety within each tree, it's possible that even with only 51 total points there will still be a fair amount of room for experimentation.. and they've said that making sure there are multiple options that seem really great such that you wish you could have both but can't is an explicit design goal.
And, you know, interesting choices are what makes games fun.

It's 41 talent points at L85.
